LIVERPOOL START SPENDING

Liverpool have been one of the clubs who have spent heavily in the transfer window. They have already brought in four players into the squad. Manager Brendan Rodgers recently confirmed that his transfer activity is certainly not over yet. As a result of spending extravagant amount of money, Liverpool will now be expected to finish in the top four. The club has not been seen in the top four for the last few years. This has subsequently reduced the revenues of the club. The first season under Rodgers was yet another disappointing because they managed to finish outside the top six.

The coming season, though, will be different according to Rodgers, who is expecting a far better performance and showing from his players in the matches. Home form has been one of the major reasons for their downfall in recent years, and it is something that the former Swansea manager is looking to improve. He has said that the strengthening of the team will have a desired effect, and they will be able to finish in the top four finally after 2009. The club has not won the league title for more than two decades, but right now finishing in the top four is the priority according to Rodgers.

“We can get into the Champions League with players who are hungry – players who have that hunger to succeed. With the right profile of player and the right level of coaching we can achieve that. We all want stars but the most important thing is you want players who are hungry to become stars. That’s what we have at the club now – players who are hungry. If we bring them in with a certain profile I think we’ve shown we are able to compete,” said Rodgers, whose team will be facing Stoke on the opening day.
